Getting The Lowdown On… BASE Coach Dustin

BASE coach, Dustin has over 10,000 hours of coaching under his belt and a proven track record of client transformations.

His biggest client weight loss was 30kg and he currently helps  Thai MMA stars Shannon ‘One Shin’ Wiratchai and Rika ‘Tiny Doll’ Ishige with their strength and conditioning fight prep.

We got to know Dustin a bit better with some quick-fire questions…

What’s non-negotiable for you when it comes to fitness and health?

Foam rolling for recovery.

What’s a typical breakfast for you?

A blended chicken shake. You’d be surprised – it tastes pretty good!

How do you manage your training and diet when you’re on holiday?

When I’m on holiday I usually eat freely and just enjoy myself, but I do try to workout as much as I can while away.

What’s your best strategy to stay motivated?

I think of my loved ones as my motivation.  I want to be able to provide for them, which of course means being healthy for them, so I can be around as long as I can.

The best thing we can do for ourselves is…

Working out! Not just for the body, but for the mind. Also to practice positive thinking in all situations and good things will eventually come.

What’s your go-to snack?

Chicken shake. Oh, did I already say that? Banana then!

What do you do to relax?

I have simple needs: Netflix, games and playing with my pet cat

What’s your post-workout routine?

Shower, eat then back to work!

Sum up your dietary approach in a sentence?

Use common sense and practice balance and consistency.

Being a good personal trainer means…

Being someone who is there to make sure our client gets better. This doesn’t just mean fitness but all aspects of life and development.

What’s the biggest diet mistake or misconception?

I think people go too hard on cheat days. They diet perfectly Monday to Friday, but on sat and sun they turn into a calorie consuming monster and underestimate the effect this has. You can cheat, but it should be done sensibly.

What are your top tips for how to keep your energy levels up?

Sleep is probably the most important thing you can do to your body. You can eat and workout perfectly but without efficient sleep it won’t work out so well

I believe everyone should…

Stop caring about social stuff, get out into the world and be more active.
